Help Us Plant Our Spring Garden!

Help me give my students the tools that they will need to plant and tend our garden beds this spring! We will study math and science daily as we tend our plants in the garden.

My Students

Our community is nestled just outside of Washington, DC, and is one of the most diverse places in the United States. My students come from all over the world and speak many different languages. We are a community that embraces diversity and each person's unique story. My students love to explore the outdoors, challenge themselves, and have a vivid sense of wonder!

My Project

We found this fall that our school garden can help ease anxieties as students navigate the covid protocols we are using to keep them healthy at school. We love to plant and tend our garden, and these items will help us integrate more outdoor science. Research shows that time spent learning outdoors decreases anxiety and increases confidence and speech in children. As we spend time studying ladybugs and insects this fall, we will increased our understanding of life cycles, ecosystems, and decomposers, while also enjoying some peaceful times in our garden.

This spring, we will focus our attention on planting the garden, and creating our our compost, honing our math and science skills.

We will also measure the perimeter and area of our garden, spend time reading and writing in our Outdoor Classroom.
