I work at a Title I school, which means my students come from low income/disadvantaged homes. Most are English Learners, and speak a different language at home. We also have a large number of refugees. All students receive free lunches and many receive free clothes from school as well.
Although these students come from low-income households, they are not any less deserving of wonderful classroom experience.
I work hard to create a positive classroom environment where students feel comfortable to learn and are set up for success for years to come.
My Project
As most people are aware, teachers are given with basically bare bones classrooms, but we need more to make it into a happy and functional room to meet the needs of 26 students.
All of the items I have requested will make a huge difference in our classroom.
Most items I requested are to help us organize, but some are also to bring positivity and joy into the room through messaging on the pillows and light box.
The two storage carts I requested are to organize our stations and guided reading areas. I have also requested a variety of other organizational bins to organize our supplies. I requested a laminator so that I will be able to reuse things for many years to come and keep them looking clean. I want the lightbox for the classroom, so that the students will have a welcome message as they enter the room each day. The pillows are to add some positive and bright messaging around the room. The whiteboard is to use at the guided reading table. The trackpad will be amazing to use with the smartboard, because our smartboards are very old and often glitchy. The trackpad will allow for easy navigation of different programs from the carpet. The Mr. Sketch markers are something the students love to use to write special letters in class.
