Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are occupational therapists working with special needs students in a low-income elementary school in Brooklyn, NY. We were fortunate to be given a classroom that we can now make into our own customized therapy space. We are hoping that you will help us transform our classroom into the therapeutic environment that we envision.

It is known that movement provides sensory input and increases attention and learning.

Whether it be jumping on the trampoline, crawling through a tunnel, navigating the balance beam, or sensory pathway, these movement activities will improve my student's self-regulation skills. Movement contributes to improved classroom behaviors and overall academic success. My students will also benefit from engaging in innovative and exciting tabletop activities to improve their fine motor skills. We are hoping that these items will provide our students with the sensory input that they need to help them become the best students that they can be.
