Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

Skye, Giustina, Amya, Kaitlyn, and Gabbie, they are what I like to call the "Fantastic Five". They are a group of girls who are inseparable, extremely energetic, and cheerleaders.

The Fantastic Five's energy is best utilized when they are able to focus on projects, community-building outreach, or anything creative. This is why they are requesting a Cricut, for a variety of reasons like projects, school beautification, bulletin boards, cheerleading signs, and their list goes on.

Learning how to be an active contributor towards a community is a very valuable lesson. It involves both academic and social skills. This project will allow the Fantastic Five to take ownership of their school and foster a stronger sense of community in the school. Through teamwork they will need to create school bulletin boards and projects, which represent their student body and student voice. In order to do this they will need to hold student-led meetings to find out what matters to the student body, and conduct votes in order to be fair on what is displayed. This democratic debate forum and voting proceedings are academic skills which will benefit them once they get to college.

In Their Own Words

We are trying to make our school pretty! We want the student body to be proud of our school and feel that every student matters. Our boards and walls are naked and we want to change that. We want to inspire the student body through showcasing their projects, creating motivational signs to hang around school, and decorating the school.

We are a group of go-getters, our teachers call us energetic and we are! Once we have the resources we plan to start an after-school club: "The Beatification Club". This club will organize and tackle each project until our school is pretty as a picture.

This project is important to our school because it will help foster community; turning stark walls into art, undecorated bulletin boards into masterpieces, and affording our cheerleading squad resources to make the best signs to cheer on their fellow athletes inspiring more school spirit.
