This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are making LEAPS in their learning, but remain several levels behind grade level. They need tools that will help them grow as independent learners, and Leapfrog learning tools will do just that!

My students attend a high-poverty school in New York.

100% of my students are receiving free lunch, and many live in shelters and temporary housing. I teach a self-contained special education class, and my first and second graders have a wide range of abilities and disabilities. Due to lack of funding, my school is unable to provide any supplemental learning materials, and my students, who are very hands-on and need a wide variety of tools to help them learn, have suffered.

My Project

One of the challenges of working with a group of students who receive special education services is that they often have difficulty working on their own. Leapfrog learning systems will allow them to continue practicing their reading, writing, and math, and allow them to do so independently, which will allow me to continue to work with students one-on-one. Furthermore, the Leapfrog learning systems will expose my students to technology, and will motivate them and make them excited to learn!

My students need a wide variety of tools to help them learn, and Leapfrog learning tools will help them immensely.

Currently, the only technology in our classroom is a broken computer and a portable cd player for audiobooks. Leapfrog would allow my students to access a different type of technology, and provide them with new learning experiences!
