My math students do all their mathematical thinking and learning using vertical, non-permanent surfaces (whiteboards). This method of learning math is great for increasing the confidence of students in mathematics as well as providing opportunities for students to collaborate in small groups and as a whole group. Student engagement in mathematics increases when they are standing at the whiteboards to work on math.
Student confidence increases when they are able to work with their peers to discover ways that math makes sense to them.
Student learning benefits greatly from opportunities to discuss and describe their thinking and the "right now" feedback I am able to provide during those times. To maintain this learning environment, I need to make sure we have enough whiteboard markers for students to use for the school year. Your donation will go a long way in making sure my students are able to continue to successfully engage in math this year!
