My Students

Every reader remembers that first book that captured their interest and sparked their love for reading. I am hoping to win over my middle schoolers and engage them in a highly popular book series.

The students that would benefit from these books are English Language learners with learning disabilities.

We are working on improving our reading skills, along with initiating their interest in literature. The school is an inner-city, Title-1 school, and many of our students have not had exposure to reading for fun. We have already discussed their interests and they have shown interest in narrative, fantasy, and fiction. They love to identify new vocabulary and to discuss the story structure of their short stories.

My Project

For the classes that will benefit from these books, they will be participating in small group reading, whole class reading, and some independent reading activities. They will have a resource to spark their interest in Greek Mythology through Percy Jackson's adventures. Utilizing a modern novel will help connect my students to their peers.

I am aiming to win over my struggling readers and engage them in a highly popular book series.

Our classroom will be full of excited students that are discussing a book rather than video games or television. The special needs students will gain confidence to tackle a rigorous text and be supported by classmates and myself, Ms. Ures.
