My Students

Help us to share our work and our thinking by being able to put it under a document camera and seeing it up close on the big screen.

I teach a first grade gifted and talented class at a high poverty school in New York City.

It is a class of 24 children, all with extremely diverse needs. They are some amazing thinkers who have a love for learning and they have lots of ideas to share all the time.

My Project

Having an AVerMedia AVerVision CP355 Document Camera to use with our Smartboard would really help us out in so many ways. My students often think in ways that are "outside the box." Whether it is math, reading, or writing, they come up with creative and clever ideas. If we had a document camera, they would be able to share their ideas immediately under the document camera and show their classmates. I also spent my summer learning inspiring ways to teach gifted and talented children. One idea that I can't wait to try with my first graders is geometry through origami! I haven't been able to try it yet because it is hard to demonstrate on such small paper for 24 children to see. A document camera would allow me to show the children how to create the origami shapes up close. They would be able to follow along as they see me make each exact crease & fold. The angles and parallel lines would be up close on the big screen. With a document camera, math could be taken to a whole new level!

Children with such curious minds often bring up ideas that can't be planned for and a document camera would let us share all kinds of materials at any time! Teaching origami with the document camera would be such a motivating and hands-on way to get my children excited about learning.
