My Students

My students are three to five year old Head Start students in the Duquesne area. They come from a variety of different backgrounds and cultures. For many, this is their first time in school, but some are returning students who are glad to help the younger students learn what we do in school.

Play is a common language.

Some of my students speak English, some speak Arabic, but they all love to play. And when children play together they are always learning something new.

My Project

In this time of social distancing, teachers face the challenge of giving students as many of the usual opportunities as possible while keeping kids engaged and safe. One way we will be doing that is dividing children into small groups and providing more materials so that toys can be disinfected between uses by different groups of children. This includes giving all children their own personal art supplies and sensory bins, as these are things that can not be sanitized and reused.

Mr. Rogers said, "Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me." Many heroes have stepped up in the last few months and are doing everything they can to help our children continue to learn and grow in this difficult situation.

You can be one of those heroes by donating to help my students get their own playdough tools, places to sit, and more. I know together we can make this a fun and educational year for all.
