My Students

Do you know the struggles it takes for my students to learn to read and to be motivated to read?

My six third grade students attend a specialized public school for students with disabilities.

All of my students have been diagnosed with Autism. All of my students struggle daily with attending to academics, socialization, the ability to master skills, and to communicate their basic wants and needs. They are all wonderful, caring, and generous children.

My Project

One of the struggles for many of my students is learning to read. The Edmark Reading program is a highly structured, sequential, and repetitive word recognition and reading program that will help my students be more confident readers. The program emphasizes an errorless learning technique and the use of reading words as a whole, so it increases each child's confidence in reading. It helps to build reading fluency and comprehension. It is a wonderful program that I would love to implement into my classroom so that we can share a love for reading together. The program allows me to work 1-1 with each student as well.

I have tried many different techniques to help my students learn to read.

Many phonemic based programs have not worked for them, and I have seen and heard success stories from other students who have used this program. I would like to see the same results with my students as well.
