This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help us have fun learning to print! Do you remember what it felt like when you were in school and the teacher made you practice your letters every day? My students, grade 1-3 have such weak muscles, and due to that have a very hard time printing.

I teach a 1st-3rd SDC class, in a very low income area.

The students I have this year have difficulty holding a pencil, writing their names, or even finding the lines to write on. They are such sweet children, but it is very difficult to not become bored practicing writing over and over. I would like to make it more fun for them, while they are still learning.

My Project

What some people do not realize is that a lot of printing has to do with finger strength, pincher grasp, and muscle strength. My students will be excited to learn to print with: A game called Gears to strengthen their fine motor skills. Theraputty which is professional silly putty to help strengthen their hands while they play. Handwriting without tears material with play dough. Pencil grips to write with. Sensory Brushes to help them calm down while they write. Therapy balls to strengthen their hands while they play. A two finger space, so that children will pay attention to where they are placing words. Colored noodles so that the can string necklaces, which is also good for their fine motor. After they have strengthened their hands and had so much fun with these materials, they will be so much more successful in printing practice.

This project is crucial because our district is no longer offering occupational therapy.

Many of the materials I order are the materials the therapist would use in my classroom. After watching her I know how to help the children, and can help them mold their printing successfully. After they learn to print, they can learn to write sentences and tell their own story! Thank you for considering this project.
