My Students

I teach Adapted Physical Education (APE) to students at multiple schools in grades Pre-K through Middle School. APE is physical education for students with disabilities. Since I teach at various schools the abilities of my students vary. I have students with autism, intellectual disabilities, seizure disorders, and dyspraxia to name a few.

One thing my APE students all have in common is that they love to move and play!

Not only is PE a great opportunity to stay healthy, it's also a great environment for learning social skills.

In my class, we play modified games and activities that give the students the supports they need to develop the skills necessary for participating in games and activities with their typical classmates and peers.

My Project

We are bouncing off the walls learning from home! PE at home can be challenging. These balls will help my students learn object control skills from home while they learn from me via zoom! When the pandemic hit, I didn't realize just how long we'd be doing PE through a computer screen. Many of my students' IEP goals involve bouncing and catching, which is hard to do when you don't have a ball that can bounce at home! These balls will allow them to follow along and learn manipulative skills safely at home.
