Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This will be my first year in a Kindergarten classroom. The students in my class will be English Language Learners from a low-income area. In the classroom, students will learn (for the first time!!!)how to read and write. They will also be taught mathematics, science, social studies, art, and phonics.

As English Language Learners and Kindergarteners, my students will need all the resources they can get to assist in the learning process. For some of the students it will be their first time in school, for some it will be their first experience in an English based setting, for others it will be their first time in school and their first experience with English. They all will need lots of hands-on and visual resources to help their learning go smoothly. Due to budget cuts, the school can not provide teachers with new furniture.

In order to help learning be more successful in my classroom, we need a place that students can come and learn. Ask any teacher, and they will tell you that an easel in the Elementary classroom is a necessity. It is the star in the meeting area, where students can see the teacher model new strategies for reading and writing, and new facts from science and social studies. It is also a place where students come together to create shared writing and where they can become at ease with being a learner. In addition, Post-it Chart Paper will help the students to create and see how their work is treasured, when it can be hung up right away.

Your help will ensure that my students will have a better chance at succeeding in a vital year of their schooling. As they say, "Everything you know you learned in Kindergarten." Help my students to learn as much "everything" as they can!
