This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love to hear a good story! Many of them don't have any books at home or anyone who can read to them. They need to hear enjoyable stories at school. These books by Mo Willems and Tedd Arnold will be a great way to get my students excited about reading.

I have a wonderful class of second graders.

Our school is located in a high immigrant, low income community in California. The parents of most of my students never finished high school. Many of my students will be the first ones in the family to finish high school and hopefully college, too. Most of my students are English learners whose parents are unable to read to them in English. I have several students with learning disabilities, and I also partner with a third grade buddy class and mainstream several students with learning disabilities into my all inclusive classroom.

My Project

I love introducing my students to memorable characters and enjoyable books. These 16 books by Tedd Arnold and Mo Willems are exactly what I need. I will use these books for story time every day after lunch and also as part of my ELD lessons.

My students are going to love hearing these enjoyable stories during story time.

I will also encourage my students to choose their favorite book and practice reading it until they feel confident that they can read the book aloud to our class and then read it to a kindergarten or first grade class too. The funny easy text and the repetition found throughout these books will also greatly benefit my students who are learning English. They are also going to enjoy doing the follow-up activities included in the two Mo Willems activity books that are part of this project.

My students love good stories. I know they will enjoy listening to the many different Mo Willems and Tedd Arnold books. I try to make my Language Arts lessons exciting so all students can be exposed to the curriculum. I want my students to be able to listen to, enjoy, and practice reading these wonderful stories. I want this project to help inspire my students' imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school.
