This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Approximately 125 students visit the library everyday. During every visit students are exposed to rich literature. One main goal is to have students develop a love for books in turn helping to develop a love for reading.

We are an inner city school with approximately 1,000 students.

As the librarian, I see approximately 500 students a week. My students are primarily children in grades kindergarten through grade 2. They are a diverse community in a low income area. They are enthusiastic about learning and their visits to our school library. Yet, often do not have all supplies necessary to complete projects. They are eager to learn and tackle new tasks. As school librarian I try to expose them to new literature, as well as, loved literature with the hope of building a love for reading. I try to give them different experiences with books, but at times it is a struggle when not all have necessary supplies.

My Project

I'm asking for a library table to help provide my students with a nice comfortable, spacious work area. Our current tables are very old, shake, and squeak. This creates disruptions and distractions for the students. A new table will allow for my students to work comfortably with a spacious engaging work area. This will help to engage students in projects and rich literature allowing them to focus with fewer distractions. Students will look forward to working at this new table with groups. Our current tables are rectangular. A round, circular table will allow for students to easily work as a group and feel more like a community. It will easily allow for engaging discussions.

I feel having this new table will help allow for future projects to easily be completed and created in our library.

It will build more enthusiasm among the students, as they will look forward to what will be read next we and what we may do is our new comfortable work spaces. What child does not love sitting and working at a nice, new,clean, spacious, table?
