My Students

In my classroom, the students are focused on learning about culinary arts. Our school is home to many Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs that provide opportunities for job preparation after high school. We have a great arts program, as well.

Our school is a large, urban, public high school with almost 2,500 ethnically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse students.

The campus has five small learning communities and is home to our school's Math/Science Magnet. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds, with a majority of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the area. Our students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Tagalog, and more.

My Project

It's seems like there's never enough money to run our culinary classes. Buying food for over 5 classes and over 150 students per day can really add up!

The students would like to hold fundraisers on campus in order to raise money for our classes.

We already have coffeemakers and are requesting a cart with some extra supplies. The supplies include coffee, cups, sweeteners and more. Having both a cart and supplies will allow the students to use their skills to conduct fundraisers outside of the class room.

The students will be able to put the hospitality skills that they are learning during in our Professional Baking class into practice by selling coffee and freshly made pastries before and after school. This will help them gain customer service experience, while earning funds that will help us continue cooking and baking in class. We have tried other fundraisers on campus but need the proper equipment to be more successful.
