Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I team-teach music for Kindergarten through 6th grade at a large elementary school in an economically disadvantaged community. Our music classes meet in a small portable classroom that does not always have enough room to accommodate the large class sizes we see every day. Our only audio device is a stationary computer in one corner of the room. It is very difficult to access the computer and the music we need when our classroom is full of students. It is also difficult to find a way to play our music when we need to rehearse or have class in another part of the school. Our music students need two portable CD players/boomboxes with remote controls. Having two will help us better serve our classes by allowing us to split the larger groups while still having access to our music. Since they are portable, we will be able to move them around the school with us when needed. The remote controls will allow us to easily start and stop the music we need, without stopping the momentum of our lessons. By helping us, you will make it possible for our students to receive a more focused, individualized music education and experience. Music has the power to enrich our students' lives far beyond the classroom. Please help us hear the sounds of music.
