Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how wonderful it felt when your mother or father laid down beside you and read you a bedtime story? I want to give that experience to my students by lending out books they love from our classroom to take home and share in a reading experience with their parents.

I teach 18 wonderful, inquisitive Pre-K children in a high need school.

They love listening to stories every day. Some of them are even ready to read! They are always asking me if they can take our classroom books home but due to severe budget cuts, books are a precious commodity that are not easily obtainable.

My Project

Not all children have books at home or have the opportunity to visit the public library. Even those that do have books at home may not have a wide variety of books such as non-fiction, informational texts, and sight word readers. I would like to create a lending library in our class that allows children to choose from a wide variety of books to take home with them so they can read with their families. Reading at home with your family not only shows children great reading habits but it also reinforces a love of literature which is essential to learning how to read. In order to create a lending library, my class needs a book browser, library labels, storage pouches, and many different types of books!

With your help, my Pre-K class can have the wonderful experience of taking home books from our class and having their families read with them.

This will help them become lifelong lovers of literature and great readers! Please help us by donating to this worthy cause! Thank you!
