My Students

My main goal is to bring my classroom into a paperless learning environment. To do this, I would like to be able to use servers like Google Docs, and the like, to be fully paperless. In the meantime, I can start with the little things like a document camera and a class set of dry-erase boards.

My ninth-grade student population is made up of quirky teenagers.

As a school, we are a mixed-race high school, with the majority of our students being African-American. Our 2014-2015 total population was just a little over 2,000 students. While our district is considered small, we are growing as a community, and will soon be overflowing with learners.

My Project

These materials will help me to start a personal campaign to make my classroom paperless. The document camera will allow me to cut down on costs for copy-making, by modeling my activities under the camera. It will also allow me to demonstrate reading strategies with my own personal copies of books, so that students can see what I do as an effective reader. The white boards will allow more interactive practice with writing and grammar, instead of the traditional paper practicing. I feel that by allowing the exercising to be more tactile than traditional methods, that students will be able to demonstrate their successes. This demonstration will also allow me to provide more immediate feedback to students, on a one-to-one basis.

Donations to this project will help change my students' learning environment for the better.

There is a definitive paradigm shift with this generation of students due to technology becoming what it has for our society. Life occurs on our tablets and mobile phones; very little is documented on paper any more. Our students were raised in technology, and it is time for our education system to work on reaching them through technology. I am excited to be able to do that for my students!
