Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My scholars made our virtual class a wonderful, positive community. They are my superstars! They joined class on time, embraced the lessons, and completed their assignments daily. My first scholar has DiGeorge syndrome, autism, and she’s nonverbal. Yet she greets us each day with a beautiful smile.

My next scholar is our mayor!

He has overcome physical, and academic challenges and continues to set new goals for himself daily. And we are all so proud of him! He told me that someday he wants to visit The White House, and I know he will!

Since two of my scholars have moved on to high school, I cannot wait to welcome my amazing new scholars!

My Project

I teach a fantastic group of 7th and 8th grade students with autism. It's important my students have an established classroom; for a well-coordinated learning environment ensures success for learners with autism. The swift shift to remote learning last year brought on tremendous pressure and anxiety for students, parents, and teachers. Not only did my scholars have to adapt to attending school online, but they also had to get used to a new teacher. Now that we’re transitioning back to the classroom it's important that I have solid routine in place and assign students responsibilities.

Since I am new to the school and didn’t see my classroom until June 2021.

Right away I noted we need storage bins so we can appropriately organize our classroom. The storage bins will help me to teach my scholars the organizational skills they need to conduct their daily tasks and succeed in life beyond high school. The area rug will be placed in the quiet area so they can unwind after their work is complete.

Having set places for everything to go will help my students appropriately navigate the classroom, and they will feel empowered when they know where things are and how to properly access them and put them away.
