This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As an educator in a low-income city school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to ensure that they all leave 2nd grade as readers, thinkers and creative little minds.

There are a number of things that may prevent my students from succeeding but my job is to focus on their potential and growth every single day.

I go to work everyday hopeful and eager to inspire even our youngest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

My students need essential supplies to get the school year going. Every year I request a list of essentials for each student to bring to school on their first day but many do not have the resources to buy these essential items.

There's nothing like a beautiful child's smile when they walk in their new classroom where they expect a new and unfamiliar teacher, new classmates and then find something familiar: their name on a desk with a sharpened pencil or two, colored pencils and other supplies they thought they didn't have or couldn't afford to buy.

I want to ensure that every child, regardless if they can or cannot afford it, to have a few items waiting for them on tier first day of school, so they feel confident that they will have what they need to get started.
