My Students

I am an elementary speech-language pathologist. My caseload consists of preschool students who have articulation IEPs, two cross-categorical special education classrooms containing up to 26 students, and several K-5 general education students who receive speech and language services.

My students are diverse learners who come from a variety of backgrounds.

We work together in small and whole groups to build the very speech and language skills needed to be successful in school and beyond.

Many of my students have additional needs, such as attention deficit, sensory-based needs, and autism. My hope for my students is that when they leave me, they are able to successfully and confidently communicate with others in and outside of the school environment. With these additional resources, I believe the communication skills of my students will continue to grow.

My Project

As we return to in-person learning this fall, I would like to provide my students a brand new thematic unit to target speech and language skills. This last year has been difficult for students and teachers alike. Many students have missed out on fun childhood experiences like camping during the pandemic.

By providing activities in this thematic unit, we can learn new content vocabulary, sequences, practice articulation, and gain new experiences while having fun.

Within the project are children's books that fit the camping theme and camping themed toys for hands-on interactive activities. Additionally, I am requesting a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card to access licenses to printable speech and language materials, including those related to this theme. Card stock, velcro dots, and laminating pouches will help make these printable materials last for years to come in addition to creating related visuals for these activities. Finally, I am requesting magnetic shelves to hold our thematic literature on display in my classroom during our units.
