Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever sat at your desk at work and suddenly realized your bottom has fallen asleep? Have you felt uncomfortable and started to fidget at your seat? Second graders experience this too!

I teach second grade in the Bronx in an inclusion classroom.

This means that 40% of the student population are students with special needs. Each child has a different learning style and different needs. My co teacher and I try to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all learners in the classroom to succeed. We consider our classroom one giant family. We care for each other and help each other to our best ability. The number one rule in Class 204 is to "Try Our Best."

My Project

Picture your 7-year-old self sitting on the classroom rug trying to learn from your teacher when that uncomfortable tingle kicks in. Every day my students come to the rug several times throughout the day so I can teach something new or reteach a skill that has not been mastered. A few minutes into my lesson I see "the squirm". Not only are my students uncomfortable but suddenly I am uncomfortable watching them! With these individual soft seats my students will maintain focus and comfort on the classroom rug. Additionally these soft seats are portable! By placing 6 pillows in a circle I instantly have room to work with students in a small group. Likewise, students can find a private spot in the room, grab a pillow and do their work. This will promote independence!
