My Students

Have you ever had a book that captured your imagination? My students love to read, but they do not have enough fiction books available to them at home and school. Help support their love of reading!

My students are a diverse group of 13 and 14-year-olds.

They are funny, sweet, charming and hard working. They want to do well and succeed! They love to read, but do not have the resources. In a world of video games, iPods, and TV, help give my students the gift of reading.

My Project

I have requested between six and ten copies each of Island of the Blue Dolphins, Introd, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Call of the Wild, It Ain''t All for Nothin', and Poison Ivy. The purchase of these novels will help students to form reading groups to share their connections to the text, expand their vocabulary, and also enable them to learn more by working together. We currently only have enough materials to read two books a year. This is not nearly enough for an 8th grade reader. In order to help grow students' love of reading, these books are necessary.
