My Students

My students have an unbridled creative impulse, but their talents are undiscovered! They go to school at a high-need middle school in the heart of NYC, where creativity is embraced, but resources are sparse. I want to give them the gift of music, and help make sure their voices are heard!

My students are joyful, intelligent and inquisitive, and they jump at the opportunity to learn new things when they relate to their interests, curiosities and passions.

My students come from a diverse group of cultural and ethnic backgrounds, making our school a place where we have a lot to learn from one another every day. My school is a place where teachers and students are encouraged to pursue greatness in all its forms. We are able to expose our students to unique and empowering circumstances and experiences. Despite this gift, we lack resources at a basic level, and a lot of what we are able to accomplish relies on the generosity of those who understand the value of all all people's education.

My Project

I want to help my students to learn to express themselves through music, and to make their voices heard, in our school and local community and beyond! My students will use the resources in this project to record their own music, a dream that, as it was for me when I was their age, is only possible with the appropriate resources. The bundle includes an interface to connect to a computer, a high quality condenser microphone, and headphones, as well as the necessary software to use with these components. Students will learn recording engineering through recording their original music.

The donations to this project will allow my students to have an opportunity that most do not.

It will give them an opportunity to create, write, and record their own music. It will allow them to construct a meaningful relationship with music that will do nothing but support their academics by building confidence and the ability to devote time and energy to tasks that require a high level of critical thinking.
