My Students

Urban students often are overlooked and mine are no exception! I want to put the tools in their hands they need to be successful at their jobs, becoming responsible citizens who understand what they need to do to ensure tomorrow has a chance to succeed. 

I am often the first introduction to science that they have ever had and while this can be a challenge, it is also exciting to see them discover things for the first time and take ownership in doing science rather than reading it from a very outdated textbook. 

They often don't believe that I want to give them opportunities outside the classroom and are truly amazed when they realize there is a huge world out there just waiting to be explored.

My Project

This trip will be a life-changing event for our students and our school. These students have rarely been out of their neighborhood so going out of the country will be an amazing opportunity for them.

Being able to see their research can have application around the world will show them how their individual attempts can have global effects.

They have been working on water quality for several years and now they can explore this same experience in two other countries: Ireland and Iceland. Iceland, because we are laying over there and will meet school students there. In Ireland, we are working in their only national park and being trained by scientists from around the world.
