My Students

My students need to move and EXPLORE. I want my students to be able to learn for themselves and make their own discoveries. By the end of the year I hope my students will leave as independent confident thinkers that aren't afraid to tackle an assignment.

My students attend a public middle school in a low socioeconomic status urban community.

They have very little exposure to anything outside of their community. Many seem to live in their own urban neighborhood "bubble" and have a difficult time understanding and believing anything that they don't normally see in their neighborhood. When they are exposed to something new in my science class, their faces light up like kids on Christmas morning! This is why I would love to get these items so that the students can explore and make new discoveries for themselves!

My Project

The students will be using these materials in different ways. They will be using the density blocks to discover how objects can have different densities even though they may be similar in size and material. My students quite frequently automatically assume that all metal objects will sink, and having a variety of different metals will allow them to see that it's truly the density of the object that decides if it sinks or floats and not just that it's a metal. The moon model will be used to demonstrate to my students why there are different phases of the moon, why night and day happens, and why seasons change. The Halls carts will be used for the students to discover how mass affects the force and speed of a moving car. Lastly the color paddles will be a fun way for the students to understand light better. Rather than just showing them that white light can be refracted into a rainbow by a prism, they could now also see that by putting the colors together they can create a white light

Please donate!

Help my students explore and discover things for themselves! Sadly many of my students rarely feel special. They are used to little and old beat up supplies in school. Honestly having something new in the classroom to help them learn will not only help them with their education but it will make my students feel very special that people were nice enough to go out of their way to help them! Thank you so much.
