My Students

Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it and who often have to move in with relatives after a job loss. Many also come from military families. The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Our staff continually goes above and beyond to help their students. The school is based on the idea that we are all part of the same team, and we work towards helping all students. Almost 100% of certified staff work as mentors during their personal time to give students who need extra help the attention they need, whether it is an academic or a personal need. We are working hard to make sure our students are prepared for the future. We have added a MakerSpace and are now working to extend our STREAM clubs.

My Project

Have you ever struggled with an issue and wished you could get help? My students face many challenges. Some struggle with social issues, other with home issues, and some with academic issues. It is hard to meet all of the needs for each student.

There are some tough issues we address.

In addition to the classroom lessons, I meet with students individually and in small groups. There are some topics I would like a few more materials to use with the students.

We have several students who have a deployed parent. I have requested some books so that each one of the students can have their own book. I also have requested books to use in small groups on technology safety, grief, and study skills. These will help with specific needs that the students have. I have over 40 small groups that meet to deal with the hard topics such as divorce, grief, incarceration, deployment, and others. Having the appropriate materials is very important when addressing these topics.

The groups usually meet every other week, for the majority of the school year. We address a lot of issues and concerns during these groups.
