Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Being in middle school is a trying time in anyone's life. Add to that the challenges of living in poverty and the roadblocks to academic success can seem insurmountable. Middle school for most represents a critical fork in the road towards adulthood. My goal is to use caring compassion to guide students down the path of college and career and away from the path of generational poverty or worse, the school to prison pipeline.
My students are more than a statistic about the effects of poverty on educational outcomes; they are real 12-year-old kids with hopes and dreams, fears and anxieties.
I want my classroom to feel to my students like a hug. A safe place where they are cared for, important and able to thrive. It is only then that true learning can take place and an atmosphere that celebrates academic rigor can be created.
It is my life's work to achieve this vision but I lack access to basic supplies and resources in my social studies class. This is true despite living in one of the wealthiest states in our nation. My students deserve equal access to a quality education. Please help.
My Project
If this project is fully funded I will be able to bring computers into my classroom for the very first time! It will provide students with the opportunity to do research and practice typing skills.
For most students, the only time they type an essay on a computer keyboard is when they are taking high-stakes standardized testing- it's no wonder they have trouble competing with resource-rich districts whose students have been using keyboards in their classrooms since kindergarten!
Currently, in our school of over one thousand kids, students share 30 dated desktop computers located in the library and teachers have to sign up for time and wait in line. Worse of all, during standardize testing time all computers are designated as testing only- 3 months of the school year! No bueno!
These two chrome books represent the start of a larger goal to have a class-set of computers on a cart that students can use daily in my classroom.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
