My students need supplies to create a welcoming and calming environment. This room will help our students to not only focus during our lessons, but will also be used as a safe space to calm down. They need a carpet, bookcase, soft seats, storage bins, and a speaker.

My Students

Our classroom is filled with enthusiastic, high energy, and inquisitive learners. My students range as much in age as they do academic abilities. Students work in age leveled groups weekly for life skills and social skills. During this time they focus on learning and practicing important real life skills that will help them to become better friends, students, and citizens. Since I service students from kindergarten through 8th grade it is important that I create a learning environment that is welcoming and appropriate for a variety of ages.

My Project

My students push themselves every day and despite their disabilities, prove to their teachers, classmates, and most importantly to themselves, that they can do anything! Creating a classroom with a calming atmosphere will help provide our students with a safe place to go when they feel they need to calm down and start fresh. I am requesting a class carpet and soft seating so our students do not have to sit at desks. I am also requestings sensory toys, baskets to hold them in, a book shelf so students know where to find these items, and a small speaker to play calming music for meditation. It will also help them to succeed during our academic time together by creating a space where they can work, while also having the opportunity to move around, utilize sensory toys, listen to calming music, or even just meditate. My students would be so grateful to have a classroom that makes them feel safe and comfortable!
