My Project

We have been lucky to have our own teaching space for drum lessons. What started with 1 kit comprised of components from 2 separate acoustic kits, has turned into a drum studio with 3 acoustic kits and 1 electronic kit with studio monitors, sound isolation headphones for each kit, low volume cymbals and sound off drum mutes to keep the volume as low as possible - all thanks to successful Donors Choose campaigns. Due to the space, we're limited on how many acoustic kits can be setup, and we're now looking to convert the space into a digital drum set lab.

Converting the space into a digital drum set lab will allow us to place 8 drumkits in the space, doubling the number of students who can play simultaneously.

There won't be a need to assign 2 students to each kit, reducing the amount of down time one will experience in the current configuration. All students will have the ability to play the entire lesson! Additionally, students will learn about digital recording and technology.

The equipment requested is just a fraction of what is needed. The desk will free up space, allowing us to setup a monitor to show videos and PDFs during class. The 8-channel headphone amp will allow us to have sound isolation headphones sent to every kit for students to hear the music they're playing to. The drum thrones will provide extra seats needed to make sure each drumkit has one. Although not part of the digital lab, the marching drumsticks and xylophone mallets will be used for the students who participate in the school's drumline.

I set out to create a drum studio within the School District of Philadelphia that can compete with collegiate teaching studios. Thanks to you, we will make that a reality!
