Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This upcoming school year, I am taking on yet another new challenge. I will have the chance of once again teaching all subject areas to a fifth grade classroom. The wonderful students at my school make up the most wonderful fifth graders located in South Philadelphia. Our school is a very diverse school where forty percent of our school population are English language learners. There are fifteen, different languages spoken at our school. Our school has a strong community that works endlessly for the benefit of our terrific students. Everyone from the principal, staff, students, and their parents work together each day.

In addition to being a 5th grade self-contained teacher, I am still supporting our school with math curriculum, and instructional support as our Math Lead teacher.

My Project

Our classes are in need of new number lines, and counting cards for lower grades to help build on their number fluency. Having new number lines in each classroom can help students with ordering whole numbers and apply this to their understanding of patterns, positive and negative integers, and decimal number understanding.

Proving our students in lower grades with counting cards will help them become more fluent in counting, adding, and subtracting.

While providing students with class number lines and number lines for their desk in all grades will serve as a visual learning tool in many concepts for math.
