My Students

The Graphic Design students at Southern are thoughtful, curious, and kind. They ask fantastic questions and come up with fantastic answers to those questions.

Southern students light up when they are able to bring their own interests and experiences into their Graphic Design practice.

The results are rich and effective because they find ways to make the work personal.

My Project

Graphic Design is a wide-ranging discipline, and there are many gateways to entry—typography, illustration, layout, animation, to name a few. Many of the design students at Southern have expressed a desire to pursue photography. By giving students an opportunity to develop this interest, they will learn how to use their photos in the context of larger-scale visual communication.

This lighting equipment would help us convert a storage closet into a photography studio, which would give students the ability to develop a foundational skill in a portfolio that will lead them to work in the real world.
