This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a diverse background and several come from low income families. Our school is a Title One School where greater than 60% of our students are on free and reduced lunch and breakfast. They are enthusiastic learners and are so excited to dive deeply into their educational journey! Currently, we are working on a novel study about the highly acclaimed book, The Black Stallion. The students are completely riveted by the story. Very few of my students have had an experience with horses and this allows them to develop a deeper understanding and connection. I would like to continue on this trajectory by buying a complete class set of The Black Stallion Returns. This project will allow every student to have a copy of the book, and will also pay for the novel study unit.

My Project

Students will have their own copy of this award winning novel.

The New York Times calls it, "The most famous fictional horse of the century.

"Each child will read, study, and dive deeply into this award winning novel through guided and independent reading.

Students will participate in a novel study, readers theaters, and strategic center based activities. After falling in love with the first book in the series, The Black Stallion, my students asked to follow The Black Stallion into the next book in the series. Their excitement was unable to be contained.
