My Students

Romeo and Juliet is a play which I truly enjoy teaching! I work hard to engage my students in the language and nuances of how things were during Elizabethan England. Currently, I teach Romeo and Juliet out of our text book, and would like to use readers this year, instead.

My ninth-grade student population is made up of quirky teenagers.

As a school, we are a mixed-race high school, with the majority of our students being African-American. Our 2014-2015 total population was just a little over 2,000 students. While our district is considered small, we are growing as a community, and will soon be overflowing our walls with excited learners.

My Project

These readers will help to put the play, literally, into my students' hands. I currently teach from our text book, and while this isn't a bad thing, I think my students still struggle with Elizabethan language. I feel these Romeo and Juliet Side by Side readers will help to give my students a dual look at the play using Shakespeare's English and Modern English.

Your donations will help change my students' learning environments for the better.

You will empower them with a resource that will show them how to become more engaged in the reading by following footnotes and text glosses for clarity and deeper contextual meaning.
