My Students

Our school serves students in grades ETK-6. We are a Title I public school from the inner-city. More than 95% of our students are on the federal free meal plan. Most of our students get dropped off and arrive at school at 7:30 AM and continue to stay at school until 6:00 PM. In other words, our school is their home away from home.

I work with energetic and motivated second graders who are eager to learn.

I would love to have the opportunity to create an environment that empowers my students to reach their full potential as scholars and citizens of the 21st-century.

My Project

Research has shown that learning to write independently for extended periods of time as a child is crucial to their success in the adult world- whether that may be in their jobs, or even being able to realize the joy in writing. So, having not returned to school since March, I am concerned for my second graders who have not had the opportunity to practice this essential skill for over a year.

This is especially urgent because along with the ability to convert your thoughts into coherent speech, the ability to write is the most fundamental building block of all learning.

The Post-it chart paper and markers will allow me to model the writing process. Students will work in pairs to chart out their thinking aloud with a partner. Writing is able to be stored for future revision.

Upon returning to school for the spring and summer semesters, my students have struggled to properly hold a pencil and use the chart paper to write legibly. Please support me with your generous donation to help make a penmanship fun activity!
