My Students

My students are curious, loving and eager to learn.

I am an occupational therapist at a title 1 school in Brooklyn. We are a public school in a high poverty area, with the majority of the students receiving free or reduced price meals at school. My students come form various ethnic backgrounds. The children on my caseload, are in both general education and special education classrooms, most of them are on the spectrum. The students I service are in kindergarten, first, and second grade. They are experiencing school for the first time and are eager to learn despite their limitations.

My Project

My students are unable to complete simple everyday tasks that are required in school such as cutting, coloring, and writing . Some of my students are unable to tolerate different sounds, and textures that help us navigate the outside word. In the classroom they are learning about different holidays and customs around the world. I would like to carryover what they are learning into the therapy room. I am requesting construction paper, glitter glue and scissors so we can decorate the room to reflect all the different holidays they are currently learning about. This would also make their learning more interactive and fun. My student will be learning to develop scissors skills, tolerating different textures (glitter, glue and paint).

By donating to this project you are opening up the rest of the world to children who are the Autistic spectrum.

These children are in their own worlds. This project will help learn about the other cultures, while they are acquiring the skills they need to function in the classroom.
