This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a new teacher at AMT, and I became very involved in student activities. This year my students organized the school's first blood drive. It was very successful, but we were unable to document the day very well. The students do amazing things each day, but we are unable to preserve the memories.

Our students come from a school in an urban neighborhood.

The school has grades 6- 12. Many students struggle in their day-to-day lives. Our school is a warm community that gives students opportunity to thrive and succeed. We try to offer activities to keep students well-rounded, including bands, academic help, sports, and more. However, due to many things, we do not always have the funds to help all these programs succeed. This year students helped organize and carry out our first blood drive. Many were involved in this amazing event. It was a great feeling and those who often don't have to give were able to because they gave themselves. The students are now attempting to do it again!

My Project

Our students will use this digital camera to document events. For example, this past week some students were able to compete in a statewide competition. Several medals were brought back, but there was no way to document this event. Our SADD Chapter did a day where they educated the community on the dangers of smoking ("Kick Butts Day"), but we have few photos. In addition, we had our first blood drive. It was successful, but a phone cannot capture the enthusiasm of our community. The pictures taken with this camera can be used for thank you notes, newspapers, and continuing the effort to be successful. This would help for our yearbook in preserving these special memories. We'd also like to start a school newspaper.

With this camera, we can document the wonderful events happening for our students.

They can then keep these memories. It will motivate them to do well and to continue to do well. It will preserve happiness when, sometimes, it's hard for them to find.
