This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at what is called a school of choice. We provide an alternative to the traditional high school setting. We cater to students whose circumstances require flexible hours, personalized instruction, immense emotional support, and a small-campus setting that allows us to meet them exactly where they are.

Our students realize the importance of graduation, and they come to us with that goal in mind.

They are a diverse group of learners, and each brings a unique set of talents and circumstances.

My Project

Our school does not have a campus library, so every classroom library and cozy reading corner that we can build helps us turn our students on to the world of reading for pleasure.

I want my students to see time to read as the gift that it is.

To ensure that, I need to create a print-rich environment that is comfortable and inviting. I want them to be surrounded by good books of every genre. I want them always have a good book within reach.

Some of my students have never read a book before walking into my high school classroom. Never. I want to make sure they all leave with a book in hand and planning what they're going to read next.
