This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are four years old. For many this is their first time in school. They are primarily English language learners. They are excited and love learning.
Young children learn best through hands-on activities and play.
My students learn letters, numbers, colors, and thematic topics by working together and having fun. Our school just opened and due to budgetary issues lacks many materials necessary in order to run a rich classroom environment. Often we are limited due to lack of resources.
My Project
Our class needs a puppet theater to use for dramatic play and for literacy enrichment. In preschool play is learning, and what better way to learn than by acting! We have many puppets but no stage to perform on. This theater can also be used by the children without puppets for drama, singing, or retelling a story. The theater we are requesting can also be turned around and used as a shop, which is a very popular dramatic play center.
Acting out a story brings it to life and helps the children to acquire a deeper meaning of the content.
Our littlest learners really benefit from this joyous experience. My students are English language learners so for them acting out a story is sometimes the only way they can really grasp the meaning of a text.
