I am proud to work at one of OUSD's most diverse schools; as a main hub for neighborhood, newcomer and refugee students, my school site serves 650+ students whose families represent over 30 countries and speak over 20 languages.
My classroom fosters a community of students who reflect this larger population; it is my intention to build and maintain a classroom community where all students can experience and celebrate academic successes, no matter what level they individually perform at.
Please consider supporting me as a first-year teacher who wants to create a classroom and fill it with resources and materials that will support this vision and goal!
My Project
All students seek avenues to communicate their thoughts and feelings, but when a student doesn't feel confident or prepared enough with their skill set, this exciting opportunity to share can feel intimidating. However, with this new writing curriculum, I will have the opportunity to practice, refine and strengthen my teaching abilities so that my students can feel more confident and better-prepared to communicate their ideas onto paper.
This curriculum includes lessons where students will access: read-alouds of exemplary writing that will stimulate their imaginations and fuel their motivation to write; shared and modeled writing and opportunities for them to share their writing with their peers; and times for independent writing practice and conferring, which provides them with immediate feedback so that they can develop as writers at their own.
On the teacher-end, this curriculum will provide me with opportunities to: implement student-centered lessons that are active and accessible for every student; make intentional instructional decisions to differentiate in order to meet the needs of individual students; use facilitation techniques that encourage all students to communicate and collaborate around rigorous content; implement cooperative structures that effectively deepen student thinking; support students in becoming independent readers, writers, critical thinkers, and problem-solvers; and lastly, feel confident, prepared, and effective in my teaching practice!
