This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a firm believer in providing hands-on activities for my students. It is through touching, feeling, manipulating, and experimenting that students get a better understanding of a concept. This is why I want my students to become paleontologists when we study fossils.

I have a wonderful class of 25 wiggly second graders.

The majority of them are English learners from low-economic backgrounds. They come to school eager to learn but lacking the necessary skills to succeed. My classroom is sometimes the only place where they practice their English skills and the only place where they read books.

My Project

I want to provide my students with hands-on activities when I teach them about fossils. The Dino Dig Excavation Kits will make my students become paleontologists. The kit will provide them with plastic tools and plastic dinosaur bones embedded into clay. The students will have to dig to get to the fossils. What a fun way to end the fossils unit in second grade! They will love this activity.

With your donation, my students will be able to physically dig for fossils, instead of just reading about it in their books.

I truly believe that students need lots of hands-on activities to get a better idea of the concepts being taught. Just reading about it is not the same, especially for wiggly second graders. They want to explore, touch, and feel things. This kit will broaden their understanding of what fossils are and what paleontologists' work is all about.
