My Students

Our music department is growing and we have such a diversity of students. Students range from complete beginners with no previous experience, to students playing since a young age, to those in top honors ensembles.

Regardless of experience, what makes our music students stand out is their hunger and thirst for new experiences.

Students can choose from a variety of classes including: Keyboard, Guitar, Beginning Band, Beginning Strings, Advanced Band (Marching and Concert Band), Chorus, and Chamber Choir. Other extra-curricular groups include: Pep Band and Jazz Ensemble.

My Project

Student interest - check. Knowledgable instructor* - check. Violins - check. Trumpets - check. Guitars - check. Now what are we missing? The Guitarrón and Vihuela Mexicana. These two instruments are imperative to a Mariachi ensemble.

With the addition of a Guitarrón and Vihuela Mexicana, we would have a complete traditional mariachi guitar instrumentation, commonly referred to as the rhythm section or las armonías.

The Guitarrón, large bass guitar, is the backbone of any ensemble, providing the primary rhythmic pulse. The Vihuela Mexicana, supports the bass line, providing a rhythmic, syncopated pulse and maintains the tonality.

Our students, regardless of skill, will have a different option to develop their skills, broaden their scope of the music genre, and develop respect and pride for a tradition immersed in culture.

Not only will they have opportunities to perform on and off campus, but this ensemble will foster a new relationship with the vibrant music community we have here in Southern California.

*Yes, our teacher will be attending the National Mariachi Workshop, a week-long intensive over the summer!
