Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second grade students are a great bunch of kids, eager to learn and ready to analyze their own work to become better writers, readers, and mathematicians. In my classroom, we analyze student work and exemplar pieces for students to understand the expected outcomes of an assignment.

Students at my school all come from low-income/poverty stricken families.

My school also services two shelters so many students are coming from that environment, as well. My students are excited second graders, ready to tackle whatever comes at them. However, most of my students go home to parents who don't speak English and work full time; therefore, they aren't able to help or support their children with their academics. I believe that it is my job to help my students foster a love and appreciation for reading, writing, and math so they can become successful students and successful individuals in today's society.

My Project

Have you ever been asked to solve a math problem but didn't know how? Have you ever been told to complete a writing piece but didn't know where to begin? The students in my second grade classroom range in abilities. I am requesting a document camera so each and every one of my students can improve academically! This document camera will help us analyze exemplar work, so students can get a clear understanding of what the expected outcome should look like. If a certain student understands the materials quicker than the rest, they will be allowed to project the image of their textbook or writing piece and explain to their peers how they went about solving that prompt. This document camera will also help project images to enhance the learning taking place in my classroom. One example would be teaching a new math concept. Math can be hard, especially new concepts! I will be able to project directly from our math textbook and model for my students how specific problems should be solved.

This project will make a difference to my students because it will allow for a safer learning environment that uses mistakes as a learning opportunity and success as a motivator.

The document camera that I am requesting in this project will provide students with additional learning opportunities that would not be possible without this ability to project live images and improve student work!
