Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom begins with planning a didactic, fun lesson that will be delivered to my students with enthusiasm and always looking for cutting-edge technology to keep them motivated. My students need resources and I try to provide them, bridging the gap and reaching for resources.

My school is located in an area in Miami that is surrounded mostly by apartments.

Rent has skyrocketed and parents often have to work two jobs in order to survive. Our student population is comprised of over 90% Hispanics. Often, our students cannot rely on their parents for assistance with homework because they lack proficiency in English. I teach over 200 hundred students and teach almost every grade level since I teach Spanish at my school. I bring technology to teach them not only language skills but science to help them make the connection between English and Spanish. By and large, my students are needy; we are a Title I school where most of my students are on Free and Reduced lunch. They are eager to learn and given the needed resources they will continue to receive the best education. Technology will help us bring our school closer to our goals and help our all of my student succeed and achieve.

My Project

These 2 iPod touch devices will be instrumental in helping us review vocabulary and reading comprehension through Kahoot online. Every week I create an online vocabulary and reading comprehension test in which my students will interactively compete against each other for points --through accuracy and speed. This activity engages all students with different needs and learning styles. Furthermore, by using technology to review all lessons my students motivations drastically increases. We need these devices since I can only have 4 students participate at a time. This grant will grow our number to 6 students at the time.

It will give more students the opportunity to participate interactively through technology and in the long run will empower them to succeed by giving them the tools needed to receive a top-notch education.
