My Students

My students with exceptional needs require unique methods of instruction. They are easily drawn to use their parents' phone to access, upload, and play games. I want to transfer that knowledge to core instruction. I want them to be that excited about learning to read. My students love technology!

My students range from first through third grade and their ages from 5 to 10.

They are energetic, curious, spontaneous, and excited to learn using technology. Imagine that you, as a child, looked through pages filled with wonderful illustrations yet, you could only imply what is written. Well, that is exactly how my students feel when they open a book but have to rely on an adult or peer to read the story to them. With technology my students will be able to access reading books online and they will practice reading high frequency words, decoding and blending letters onto words. Students will be able to define a word, they don't understand while it is being read. A thesaurus will literally be within reach of their fingertips. I can't think of another modern marble such as functional technology that can better suit my students' needs. Twenty-first century learners must learn computer literacy. It's not a simple wish, it's a necessity. My students will be greatly impacted.

My Project

My students need an Apple Book Pro, updated technology to access learning. There are more than simply paper and pencil ways of learning and my students need instruction to be more engaging. My students will use the laptop in the classroom in the same manner and ease they use their parents' phone but with a much more meaningful purpose. "All the world is a laboratory to the inquiring mind," Martin H. Fischer. My students want to reach their potential, they don't want to be reminded that they have a learning disability or condition. "'Donat limit yourself. Many people limit themselves to what they think they can do. You can go as far as your mind lets you. What you believe, you can achieve." -words by Mary Kay Ash. Although she spelled 'donat' phonetically incorrect, she succeeded to get her point across. Children with exceptional conditions are whole individuals, they merely need supports to maximize their potentials. With technology in the classroom, they will learn to read and tap-onto their potential.
