Our campus is among many with very high literacy needs post-COVID. The students need books that are both interesting and at an appropriate level of difficulty, which is where these class sets come in! A Series of Unfortunate Events explicitly teaches vocabulary in context and it's a series, which will make students want to read even more and learn more new words, while Sideways Stories from Wayside Schools teaches students to compare vignettes told in a similar setting to find themes. Both books were meaningful to me when I read them with my own elementary teacher several years ago and I want to spread the joy and love for reading to my own students!
