This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Scientists, mathmeticians, authors, aritsts, engineers, editors. Every day my students come into the classroom knowing they will have an opportunity to explore and develop another part of themselves. Many of them come from homes where their options and resources are very limited and the expectations are low. But when they come to school they have a chance to change that, and with an array of books they can go anywhere in just moments. I teach at a Title I school in North Carolina where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. I strive to be able to provide my students with the necessary environment, resources, and materials to feed their desire to learn, grow, and be the best they can be and more.
My Project
These leveled reader books and bins will provide my students with an easy to access and search library in the classroom. They can be confident that whatever level they are reading at, there is a book readily available that they can read all on their own. The bins and their matching stickers will make it easy for my students to retrieve and return books in a timely manner, allowing them to spend more time engaged in their reading adventures. They can be successful each time they pick a book from our shelves and continue to develop into their best selves. Becoming a confident and strong reader will continue to open doors for my students that circumstance may try to close.
