Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I often say that although I am a teacher, I feel as if I am a student. I am constantly learning from my students. Being in a culturally- and financially-diverse classroom this year is changing me as a teacher. I am learning to best suit the many needs of my students. My students are humble, selfless, and kind. They give, even when they do not have much to give. They make me want to do everything in my power to give back to them.

We are in a Title I school where over 93% of the students come from low-income households.

Regardless of this statistic, I know that my students have great capabilities and potential. They are motivated and driven to learn even at their young age because they want to overcome the obstacles they face in their everyday life. For this same reason, I am determined to give them the learning environment that they deserve to learn in: one that is nurturing, welcoming, and stocked with the tools needed to build their future.

My Project

Close your eyes. Imagine this. You are inside the Library of Congress. Look around. You see thousands of books. You can see the carefully crafted shelving. You can look at a part of history however, you haven't even left the comfort of your room. Did you know the Library of Congress has a virtual tour online?

Where am I going with this, you ask?

Virtual tours and virtual field trips are one of the many things that my students will be able to partake in with the use of these iPads. There are many resources available right now in education that allow students to get online and connect with each other, as well as the world around them. It would be naive to think that technology is going away. My students need these iPads to promote their exposure to the technology they will likely need in the future. The world is quickly moving towards a more technology-centered way of life and having these iPads will prepare my students for the future. Being able to use technology in the classroom will also serve as a tool to build connections and relationships with students through online interactive games, emails, and more.

Having iPads will increase the level of technology in my classroom which will, in turn, increase the number of resources my students have access to be able to further their learning. From online research to virtual field trips, technology IS and will CONTINUE to be a crucial part of my students future. Will you help us prepare ourselves for the future?
