My Students

I have taught this particular group of 2nd graders for almost two school years now. They came to me in 1st grade nervous, but wide-eyed and ready to learn ALL THEY COULD! I knew from the very beginning that this group would be exceptional. Each and every step of the way they have proved me right!

-We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teachers hand, because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which we experience much of our world.-David Warlick My students are so eager to get all the information they can from me.

We work relentlessly from 9:15 A.M. when our Novel Study begins, to 3:25 P.M. when we are frantically rushing out the door, sad for our learning to end. But it only ends for the day, because the next morning our routine is repeated. I decided to loop with my class last year to see just how far their minds could be stretched. I have come to the conclusion that the only limit is the resources that we have available to us. That is my biggest challenge. To provide my class with the knowledge they crave has become very problematic in the difficult economic times Public Schools face today. This is the reason your contributions are vital to our success. Without your help, we face a constant uphill battle.

My Project

The possibilities are endless for how we will use our classroom iPad. 30 little faces watch my iPhone when we want to google information about a particular topic. With an iPad, there is an app for helping students take turns, StickPick; an app for letting them know if they are being too loud, Too Noisy; an app for earning iPad time for demonstrating good behavior using Classroom DoJo; an app for having music play in the classroom using Audible; taking Accelerated Reader quizzes on the iPad is WAY COOL!!; an app to study the weather using Wundermap; an app to practice our math facts using Flashcards+; an app to write a collaborative class story using Storybook Maker; an app to track individual reading progress with the Running Records Calculator; an app to provide a virtual tutor for struggling students with HMH Math on the Spot; an app to use a projector and Google Earth to take a virtual field trip. The list of ways it can be used is infinite with new apps being created every day!

My students have learned that asking questions is fundamental to their survival.

My dad always stopped what he was doing and took the time to answer my never-ending questions. It is a big reason why I am who I am today. I am "my dad" for my students. I will stop whatever I am doing to answer a question. The iPad will allow me to give precise, accurate, and immediate facts. We ALL deserve to have that someone in our lives. Their lives are magically transformed when their voices are heard.
